Winter Toy Story Trail Lights up Stoke Newington for 10th Anniversary of Toy Appeal

Stoke Newington is set to sparkle with the enchantment of childhood as local traders join hands for the Winter Toy Story Trail, coinciding with the 10th anniversary of a beloved local toy appeal. Organized by the Stoke Newington Business Association, this magical event aims to spread joy and collect new gifts for children facing poverty.

The festivities kick off at 10 am on Saturday, December 9th, starting at Stoke Newington’s Farmers Market. Expect a delightful array of activities, including wand-making workshops, carol singing, a Santa’s grotto, and special offers. The celebrations culminate with a Christmas party at The Old Church, hosted by Location Location estate agency.

Heidi Early, Chair of the Stoke Newington Business Association, expressed the community’s dedication, saying, “So much love is going into this event. The Winter Toy Appeal perfectly captures the community spirit here in Stokey, and to mark its 10th anniversary, it feels entirely fitting for businesses to host a magical day for families.”

The trail winds its way through the High Street and Church Street, with children encouraged to spot wish-fairy’s trademark wands in shop windows and collect stickers on their trail maps from participating stores. Local landmarks, such as The Fire Station and Stokey’s big Christmas tree, will be adorned with festive decorations, showcasing the collaboration between Output Arts and local schools.

Location Location estate agency is set to host their annual family party at The Old Church, featuring live music, wand-making, and mulled wine for parents. Illuminated cubes in the church grounds will add to the festive ambience.

Heidi emphasized, “We hope locals and visitors will make a whole day of it and enjoy special meals at our brilliant restaurants and pubs. It’s worth booking a table early to avoid disappointment.”

The Winter Toy Appeal, initiated by Basil and Jenna Fansa of the Local Buyers Club, has become a cornerstone in supporting children in extreme poverty in London. In partnership with Location Location, the appeal provides new toys for over 5,000 children each year, distributed by councils, refuges, children’s centres, and schools.

Jenna Fansa shared her gratitude, saying, “Stoke Newington’s businesses have been such a huge part of the toy appeal from the beginning. It’s wonderful that they are marking the Appeal’s 10th anniversary with a Christmas event that thanks the community for their kindness while offering really fun activities for families.”

The power of community.
