Stoke Newington Market Featured in the Evening Standard

We were delighted to see Stoke Newington Farmers’ Market recognised in the Evening Standard’s round-up of the best farmers’ markets in London. The feature highlights what many of us already know, this market is one of the capital’s true gems.

Run by the pioneering social enterprise Growing Communities, the market has been a Saturday fixture in N16 since 2003. Now based at St Paul’s Church on Stoke Newington High Street, it is proudly the UK’s only all-organic weekly farmers’ market.

What makes it special

  • Every stallholder is committed to ecological, organic or biodynamic farming.
  • Produce comes directly from small-scale farmers and growers, many within 60 miles of London.
  • Shoppers will find fresh seasonal fruit and vegetables, bread, meat, fish, cheese and other dairy products, all produced to the highest welfare and environmental standards.
  • Most produce is sold loose or with minimal packaging, making it easy to shop more sustainably.

More than just shopping

Growing Communities has always believed food systems can be better for people and the planet. Their work extends beyond the market, with a long-running veg box scheme and educational projects that introduce local children to ecological food growing.

Being featured in the Evening Standard is well-deserved recognition for a market that has been quietly leading the way for over twenty years. It is proof that sustainable food systems are not only possible in London but thriving, right here in Stoke Newington.

The power of community.

We love to support local businesses, schools, charities, and people. Know someone who’d benefit from our support?
