There’s just one week to go until Stokey’s annual Trick or Eat Halloween trail, which will collect vital supplies for Hackney Foodbank.
It’s the seventh year the event has been organised here – while families are out trick or treating, they’re encouraged to bring along non-perishable food and donate to participating households and businesses.
Trick or Eat is organised by the Local Buyers Club and supported by Location Location and Stoke Newington Business Association. Businesses will be collecting donations between 3 pm and 6 pm and households from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, October 31st.
Jenna Fansa of the Local Buyers Club said: “This year more than 70 shops, restaurants and homes in Hackney are taking part in Trick or Eat – the food we collect will help support our local food bank through what threatens to be one of the hardest winters in memory.
“The cost-of-living crisis is biting hard, with the borough’s poorest residents skipping meals and keeping the heating off. Demand for Hackney Foodbank is up by around 70 per cent this year and food donations have dropped by 23% so they urgently need more donations.
“Trick or Treat is a brilliant way of enjoying Halloween while teaching our children about giving and kindness. Every year we hear from families that the kids love finding food bank collection boxes to donate to along the trail – and of course getting some treats too!”
Last year’s Trick or Eat collected around three tonnes of food.
Location Location has gone all out with their window display this Halloween – with a spooky skeleton and gravestones. They’re a permanent donation point for Hackney Foodbank and have been helping with Trick or Eat since the beginning.
Other businesses taking part in Trick or Eat include Stoke Newington Book Shop, Earlybird Cards, Know and Love, Nook, Prep, Hub, Dogsnug, Jarr Market, Array and many more.
